Who they are:
The Markets Initiative is a coalition project of four BC environmental non profit organisations: Forest Action Network, Friends of Clayoquot Sound, Greenpeace Canada and the Sierra Club of BC. The Markets Initiative works with Canadian companies to help them develop environmentally sound wood and paper purchasing policies. This shifts them away from ancient forest products towards ecologically responsible alternatives. By setting the market demand for environmentally sound alternatives, the Markets Initiative aspires to create investment opportunities for development of the alternatives to ancient forest products within Canada.

Their mission:
To reduce the Canadian consumption of ancient forests, and create economic and political leverage for their protection, by working with the Canadian business sector to alter their purchasing and investment practices in wood and paper products.
